Creating and supplying products that meet customer needs as quickly as possible

The Design Division is responsible for series of tasks involved in creating products that meets customers’ needs, such as material selection, design, prototyping, evaluation, and proposal, while working with sales and the Central Laboratory.
For example, a customer might request wiper rubber that lasts longer or does not create noise when moving. In response, we conduct performance testing and evaluation as we determine the physical properties (such as performance and physical characteristics) required of the rubber material. We then develop and design a suitable material and ultimately create a product. The FUKOKU Design Division is staffed by engineers from a variety of backgrounds, including chemical engineering as well as mechanical and electronic engineering. In order to quickly create the products satisfying our customers need, we continue to combine expertise and knowledge from advanced and varying fields in order to further polish our skills.

We use cutting-edge simulations method from the product conception stage to forecast product quality and design a product. We also use a wide range of testing and analysis equipment to evaluate product performance. As an example, let us consider a torsional damper, which reduces engine vibration noise. When designing such a product, we use simulation technologies (such as vibration analysis and eigenvalue analysis) along with evaluation technology that makes use of an engine bench capable of measuring vibration and noise from an engine and its accessary components, in order to design the optimal product.

When engineers think of design, they tend to think of designers sitting alone in silence working on a problem. However, that is not the case. The important thing is to build a relationship of trust with customers and to determine what customers need by communicating with them.
A customer who trusts us is more willing to say what is really on their mind. These customers will end up coming to us with requests. With a trusting relationship in place, a customer is more likely to ask our advice even if they are thinking of something that seems impossible. When designing a product, it is crucial to have the ability to build trusting relationships with customers and propose solutions that take industry needs into consideration.

You should also consider potential when job hunting

K.S, design

I majored in chemical engineering and what I do now for work has absolutely nothing to do with what I studied in school. However, the foundational knowledge I gained at school is definitely useful at work. When job hunting, I think it’s important to take future potential into consideration instead of focusing too much on what you studied in school. The atmosphere at FUKOKU is relaxed and it’s easy to talk with coworkers regardless of age. I really enjoy working here. I hope anyone reading this will come to the same conclusion and consider a career at FUKOKU!
